How AP scores are derrived

Qualifying Scores for the AP test from 1998 (first year) and 2003

The raw score is arrived at by the adding together the results of multiplying

the total number of correct multiple choice answers by 0.9 and the total free

response points by 1.5, for a maximum possible total of 150.

                      100 multiple choice question X 0.9 = 90

4 free response questions X 10 points each X 1.5 = 60

                                                                  Total     150

The raw scores are fit to a statistical model and reported on a scale of one to five, with the five meaning

extremely well qualified.
